Dear Ladies,
Shortly before the founding of Femmixx.com, Tachelle & I had a conversation where she asked me what active hip-hop female MCs’ and producers I can name. At the time, I could only name Remy Martin, Rah Digga, & the female member of the Juggaknots as active MCs’ and Missy Elliot as an active producer.
Being exposed to Femmixx.com, I have learned there are many more active female MCs’ & producers than I knew of previously. I have also learned there are many ladies populating every facet of the hip-hop culture and industry. There are female MCs’, DJ’s, radio personalities, graffiti writers, producers, writers, studio owners, A&R reps, label heads, etc.
With ladies in every facet of the hip-hop culture, it appears that women can improve their standing and position in hip-hop, if they network amongst each other. It would be a positive development if you ladies who have crossed through Femmixx.com’s doors were able to use the site to facilitate networking among each other.
MCs’ can link up with producers, party DJ’s, & radio personalities to get exposure for their records. Producers can link with studio owners for studio time to perfect their beats or provide beats for aspiring MCs’ needing a producer.
Label heads & A&R reps can put on aspiring talent on the basis of that talent, not the T&A factor. This networking amongst ladies can lead to advancement for all involved and improvement in the status of women in hip-hop as it would be done in the absence of overt male involvement, which means not having to conform to their apparent one track view of what the image of women in hip-hop should be, where women in hip-hop can solely determine their image & status in hip-hop.
If the networking possibilities created by ladies in every facet of hip-hop were realized, women would have a much stronger positive presence, which would bring hip-hop culture one step closer to being what it should be. Ladies, this is a call to network here at Femmixx.com.
