 Tachelle: You are definitely a breath of fresh air in the industry. What words or emotions express your style? MC Dynasty: Thanks, Tachelle! The word that describes me best is authentic. T: When did you first start rhyming? What inspired you? MCD: I started rhyming as a kid just because the boys were doing it and I was a bit of a tomboy. Me and my girls would take songs and incorporate our names into the verses. I was "baby dee" at that time. LoL. I was around 12 or so...
T: Take us back to that moment when DJ Premier found you – how did it all happen? MCD: Wow, well, my DJ, Sandman emailed my first single to Premier in an email blast I believe. He listened to the track and liked it! I remember getting a call from Sandman like "yo, Premier hit me and said that he likes “Femcee.” He's gonna play it on his show tonight." It was insane to me (in a good way)!
T: Tell us about your new single and the music producers you are working with. MCD: Well, the new single is Epic Dynasty produced by DJ Premier. It's a special song to me because Premier gave me this beat the first time I met him. He was such a humble dude. I remember, he thanked me for doing a drop for his radio show. Now at that time he had placed “Femcee” on his "On Tha Road Again" mixtape and taken it all around the world. LoL and here he is thanking me for a drop. Anyway, he gave me the beat and I wrote. Then I waited a few months later-- he invited me to his radio show and surprised me on air with the debut of “Epic Dynasty.” He placed it on his “Get Used to Us” compilation, which is a major deal for an unsigned artist and came out to shoot the video with me. That’s the long version. The short version is: it’s a banger.
T: My partner at Femmixx - DJ Gary B wants to know if you will collaborate with KRS-One, Ghostface, Mos Def, and Joel Ortiz? MCD: Whaddup Gary B. I would love to collab with Mos. He is one of my favorite top three emcees. It would be dope to collab with KRS. I opened for him once and he pulled me on the stage during his set to rock with him, it was an amazing moment. Joel is sick too... Slaughterhouse is one of my favorite groups. T: The blue knitted hoodie in your video is fierce – who made it? MCD: Haha. I love my hoodies. My girl Vivian Fisk of Higher Ground Creations made it. You can find her at hgcinc.org. T: Where do you want your music to take you? MCD: I want my music to take me all around the world. I've been embraced online by music lovers from France to South Africa. Now I need to go see them. T: When will the next single drop and can Femmixx.com get an advance copy? MCD: The next single will drop sooner than later and we will definitely keep you guys in the loop. I'll be shooting my next video back home in NYC in June, so expect something magnificent very soon (I didn’t even mean to rhyme right there).
T: For those young girls out there who have dreams and don’t believe in themselves – what words of wisdom can you offer them? MCD: Ok, this is what's most important to me - the youth. I would tell them that despite all odds, they have to believe in themselves. We all have a story, we all go through things and often times we find ourselves in situations that we can't see our way out of -- I have been there! I still find myself there on occasion (smile), but what makes my journey different than any other is that I've always believed in myself. The world can make you feel less than, undervalued and unappreciated, if you don't fit certain molds. Nobody can do you like you can. Forget breakin' molds -- make your own mold.
