Style and Fashion
These days, girls want to keep up with what's in style and hip in fashion. Sometimes it’s for the good and sometimes not. There are many names for the way girls dress -- bohemian, emo, and hipster, retro, vintage -- whatever the style may be girls are concerned about their appearance.

From the ends of her hair to if their shoes match their outfit – girls are obsessed with being perfect. Don't get me wrong, I always make sure that everything is in place before I leave my house, but what looks good to one person may not look good to someone else.

To me, I think that girls worry more about how they look than anything else. From observing girls in my high school, a majority of them are more into looks than education. Yeah I've been that girl before.

During a regular day in high school girls cut class to stay in the bathroom.  They stand in front of the mirror brushing on eye shadow, press powder and putting on tons of lipstick. As girls, we shouldn't put a million things on our face. It’s understandable that sometimes we want to put on some makeup to hide imperfections, but going over board can make a naturally beautiful girl look like a circus clown.

I wonder do these girls who put on so much makeup to make themselves look pretty have a pretty personality on the inside.

So here's a little tip: Let your face breathe. Show your natural beauty. People will think that you're so much prettier if they actually see your face.

There are some girls who can wear makeup and have confidence and actually humble themselves. Then there are the girls who wear a million pounds of makeup -- in my opinion to hide an ugly personality inside them. There's always that one girl who thinks she's the most beautiful thing in the world, and puts other people down just to make herself feel pretty – the typical mean girl.

So why are girls so hooked on appearances? Well there could be a few reasons why, they are either insecure about how they look or it can be competition. They want to show up the next girl, so they can feel superior inside.

But the one factor that sums up the whole topic of appearance, which has a major effect on girls, is the need for compliments. Yes, it’s nice when someone tells you -- you look pretty today, but for some girls, they want to hear it all the time.  It’s like a drug that makes them feel good. To me, this just adds fuel to the fire.

It gets so bad sometimes where everything has to be a compliment that girls let other people dictate what they wear. So the way it works is you wouldn't wear what you actually want to wear, but you'll choose what to wear based on what people say. There has to be a line drawn somewhere. Not everyone is going to like what you wear or how you look. You can't just base your appearance on what someone says. There's only one person who is in control of your appearance, it’s you. Be yourself and wear what you like.

One last tip: Be original with what you wear. Wear something that not only makes you feel confident, but also comfortable. Let your natural beauty show. Everyone is beautiful inside and out. You don't have to hide behind a mask to show people that you’re pretty. Keep it subtle and people will see the true beauty in you.
